|The purpose of this training is to increase provider awareness of advanced topics and emerging trends in TB, including TB & diabetes, TB & HIV, drug resistance, BCG & bladder cancer, TB & TNF-alpha antagonists, TB & organ transplants, infectiousness, and new research on TB diagnostics. This training utilizes lectures, discussions, and case-based presentations.
|This training is open by invitation only. It is designed for physicians and nurses involved in the management of patients with TB.
|As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. This training aims to build the TB knowledge base of clinicians in order to promptly identify and adequately treat cases of active and latent TB.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Explain the relationship between TB and diabetes, and apply current recommendations for proper diagnosis and treatment of TB in patients with diabetes
- Utilize current recommendations for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of latent TB infection and TB disease in patients taking TNF-alpha inhibitors in order to avoid complications related to the development of TB in those infected and the cure of active TB disease
- Select appropriate medication regimens for patients with drug resistant disease and their contacts to increase cure rate and prevent development of further drug resistance
- Apply current recommendations for TB testing and diagnosis in patients being treated for bladder cancer with BCG so that patients are tested appropriately and diagnosed promptly
- Employ appropriate TB testing strategies for patients who are awaiting or have undergone organ transplants, in order to diagnose and treat them in a timely manner
- Summarize new research about TB diagnostic strategies and how to apply these strategies in various clinical settings
- Apply principles of infectiousness in order to accurately assess the risk of TB transmission
- Select an appropriate medication regimen for patients with TB-HIV co-infection to minimize drug-drug interactions and toxicities
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course and complete an evaluation form at the end of the course. A post-course follow up evaluation will be sent to participants within 6 months of the course.

Take I-93 South. After the $0.75 toll, bear LEFT onto I-293/Everett Turnpike South to Manchester. I-293 and the Everett Turnpike will fork in Manchester, bear RIGHT on I-293 (you'll see Macy's on your right hand side). Once bearing RIGHT on I-293, the highway forks again; bear LEFT on I-293 South/101 East. Get off at Exit 2 (Brown Ave). Turn RIGHT onto Brown Ave. After 1.5 miles you will find the Manchester Airport. At the set of LIGHTS, go STRAIGHT. Take your first RIGHT onto HIGHLANDER WAY. This is the entrance to the Highlander.
FROM THE SOUTH
Take I-93 North into Manchester NH. Bear LEFT onto I-293 North. Get off at Exit 2 (Brown Ave), and turn LEFT. After 1.5 miles you'll find the Manchester Airport. At the set of LIGHTS, go STRAIGHT. Take your first RIGHT onto HIGHLANDER WAY. This is the entrance to the Highlander.
Take Route 3 North. In NH it becomes the F.E.Everette Turnpike. Continue North through the Bedford Tollbooth. Take the next right for I-293 South. Get off at Exit 2 (Brown Ave). Turn RIGHT onto Brown Ave. After 1.5 miles you will find the Manchester Airport. At the set of LIGHTS, go STRAIGHT. Take your first RIGHT onto HIGHLANDER WAY. This is the entrance to the Highlander.
FROM THE EAST
Take 101 West into Manchester. Bear LEFT onto I-93 South. Bear RIGHT onto I-293 North. Get off at Exit 2 (Brown Ave), and turn LEFT. After 1.5 miles you'll find the Manchester Airport.
