Location: University of Massachusetts Medical School | Faculty Conference Room, 55 North Lake Avenue | Worcester, MA 01655

*Scholarship Available on behalf of the MA Department of Public Health*

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This one-day conference will provide practical applications of contact investigation and management from the first notification of infectious tuberculosis to treatment completion for the last person affected. We will explore each step of the contact care cascade through the lens of quality improvement.

AGENDA

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This conference is open to physicians, nurses, disease investigators, community health workers and other public health staff.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. Therefore, ongoing training and education are important for healthcare providers to enhance skills in TB diagnosis, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies. This conference will also promote networking among colleagues and sharing of experiences.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:

  • List the steps of the care cascade for latent TB infection in Massachusetts.
  • Apply the elements and activities of TB interviewing for contact investigation when eliciting contacts of persons with infectious TB disease.
  • Explain state guidelines for the prompt identification, evaluation, and appropriate treatment of contacts.
  • Implement strategies for the prompt identification, evaluation, and appropriate treatment of contacts.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire training and complete an evaluation. Participants will be asked to complete a follow-up evaluation within 1 month of the training.

This course is designed to include online pre-course work on the basic concepts and skills required for TB interviewing and TB contact investigation. Completion of the pre-course work is strongly recommended. Participants must view the online lectures in order to claim continuing education credit for the pre-course work.
