TB Case Management Workshop for NJ

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This two-day course will address aspects of TB case management from a nursing perspective using a case-based approach. The course format consists of didactic and interactive content. Topics include fundamentals of TB case management, patient centered TB care, importance of documentation, role of legal interventions, improving adherence, monitoring patients, management of TB in children, and managing special situations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This conference is open to nurses and field staff in New Jersey who are involved in the diagnosis, management and care of patients with TB infection or disease.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
Ongoing training and education is important for nurses so they can develop and enhance skills for case managing a patient to and improve clinical outcomes. This educational activity will assist the nurses with incorporating patient-centered TB case management in their practice.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:
• Assess patients as part of appropriate monitoring during TB treatment through completion of therapy
• Apply the elements and activities of the TB case management process to provide patient-centered TB care
• Choose the most suitable strategy for managing patients in special situations
• Develop and implement a nursing care plan to improve outcomes for TB patients

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire training and complete an evaluation. Participants will be asked to complete a follow-up evaluation within 1 month of the training.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, and New Jersey Department of Health. Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
CNE: This activity is awarded 10.75 contact hours (60 minute CH). Nurses should only claim those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.
