Common sites of extrapulmonary TB include:

  • lymph nodes
  • especially in pediatric cases
  • pleura
  • genitourinary tract
  • bones and joints
  • meninges
  • peritoneum
  • pericardium

However, virtually all organ systems may be affected. As a result of hematogenous dissemination in HIV-infected individuals, extrapulmonary TB is seen much more commonly today than in the past.
