WEBINAR DESCRIPTION
The webinar will look at risk communication around TB during the COVID-19 pandemic using a panel discussion format. Provision of TB care is changing, and staff and patients alike may be experiencing fear and anxiety, which present barriers to accessing and delivering appropriate TB services. This webinar will explore challenges faced by frontline staff and managers or supervisors when communicating with TB patients, contacts, and others. The panel will discuss strategies for developing messages and approaches to communication to help ensure that appropriate TB care can be provided. Panelists will include mental health professionals, communication experts, TB program staff, and clinicians.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This webinar is open to TB program and public health staff who are involved in the care and prevention of TB, including program managers, clinic managers, nurses, disease investigators, and outreach workers.

WHY THIS WEBINAR IS NEEDED
Provision of TB care is changing, and staff and patients alike may be experiencing fear and anxiety, which present barriers to accessing and delivering appropriate TB. As TB programs navigate maintaining continuity of services during the COVID-19 pandemic , resources are needed to help TB program managers and healthcare workers effectively address communication challenges with TB patients and staff about health and safety concerns.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize the emotional and psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health workers and TB patients
  • Apply risk communication principles to develop messages on TB and COVID-19 for front-line health workers, patients, and contacts
  • Use tailored approaches for communicating with health workers, TB patients, contacts so appropriate TB care can be provided
