Philadelphia World TB Day Conference: It's Time to Rethink TB

Date: March 25
Location: Drexel University, Nesbitt Hall, 3215 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
In commemoration of World TB Day, this conference will address TB prevention and control efforts for the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Topics will include current  epidemiological TB trends in Philadelphia, current updates in TB, patient perspective, and homelessness and TB. The didactic lectures will include time for discussion to engage participants and enhance interaction.

AGENDA

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This conference is open to community providers, physicians, nurses, public health staff, and other health care workers who manage patients at risk for or diagnosed with TB infection or disease.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
As the incidence of TB continues to decline, maintaining clinical expertise is particularly challenging especially as the cases are more complex to diagnosis and manage. Ongoing training and education are important for clinicians so they can develop and enhance skills in the diagnosis of TB, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:
• Evaluate TB trends in Philadelphia to enhance screening protocols
• Recognize common errors in diagnosing TB disease
• Apply updated recommendations for testing and treating TB infection in pediatric patients
• Outline patient centered care approaches for addressing the challenges of testing and treating TB among the homeless

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire training and complete an evaluation. Participants will be asked to complete a follow-up evaluation within 1 month of the training.
