Online TB Case Management for Nurses

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This interactive online course consists of four live web-based sessions. It will address specific aspects of TB case management from a nursing perspective using a case-based approach. The format will include videos, brief lectures and discussion. Topics include documentation for case management, TB contact investigations, patient-centered care, management of TB in and special situations, improving adherence and managing adverse drug reactions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Enrollment is limited to registered nurses who are responsible for providing TB case management for patients with TB infection and disease.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
Ongoing training and education is important for nurses so they can develop and enhance skills for case managing a patient to and improve clinical outcomes. This educational activity will assist the nurses with incorporating patient-centered TB case management in their practice.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:
• Define the nurse’s role in TB contact investigations, including the evaluation and treatment of identified contacts.
• Outline strategies for addressing barriers to adherence in TB patients to ensure successful treatment through completion of therapy.
• Develop a care plan to reflect accurate documentation of medical and case management interventions, monitor patient response to therapy, and illustrate intermediate goals and expected outcomes.
• Recognize adverse drug reactions to TB medications in order to develop appropriate interventions.
• Apply a patient-centered approach to the prevention and case management of tuberculosis in special populations.  

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Enrollment is limited to TB nurse case managers who have a working knowledge of TB. This course will be conducted as four live sessions occurring over four weeks with online homework assignments. In order to apply for this course, participants must be available for all four live dates (May 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2019) and complete homework assignments. Course certificates will only be issued if these requirements are fulfilled and partial credit will not be awarded.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, and New Jersey Department of Health. Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
CNE: This activity is awarded 7.50 contact hours (60 minute CH). Nurses should only claim those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.
