New York State TB Update

Date: October 16, 2019
Location: Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This conference will address current updates and new technologies in TB. The topics will include molecular diagnostics and whole genome sequencing, diagnosis, testing, and treatment of LTBI, engaging your community to treat LTBI, Class B immigrant/refugee TB evaluations, managing MDR-TB, options for DOT, and translating new guidelines into practice.

AGENDA

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This conference is open to physicians, nurses, and healthcare workers who diagnose and manage patients with TB infection or disease.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. Therefore, ongoing training and education are important for healthcare providers to enhance skills in TB diagnosis, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies. This conference will also promote networking among colleagues and sharing of experiences.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:

  • Implement current recommendations to increase treatment completion among patients with TB infection.

  • Develop effective strategies for the care of TB patients through the use of Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), case management, and clinical monitoring.

  • Integrate new recommendations for treatment and management of drug resistant tuberculosis.

  • Assess the utility of molecular tests for improved clinical diagnosis and public health practices.

  • Outline recommendations for overseas TB medical evaluation and follow-up of B1/B2 immigrants in the Unites States.
