- Administering prophylactic co-trimoxazole may prevent Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) and bacterial infections in PLWHIV who have TB disease.
- CPT substantially reduces mortality in PLWHIV who have TB disease (by up to 48% in the WHO African Region) (Ref.)
- For TB patients, CPT should be initiated as soon as possible, irrespective of the CD4 cell count, and given throughout anti-TB treatment.
- Continuation of CPT after TB treatment is completed should be considered in accordance with national guidelines.
