Tuberculosis Education for School Nurses

Adult Learning

The importance of adult learning plays a key role in healthcare professional training. As a trainer, you need to be aware of the unique needs of the adult learner to hold an effective training program. Adults, unlike children, base their learning on past experiences and relevance to current or future experiences. In this case, a TB-related training program should address:

  • Past and current experiences with administration of TB medications

  • Tuberculin skin testing

  • TB-related policies and protocols

Therefore, training materials contained herein, are geared toward practical, not theoretical education. The TB information provided is specific to school nurses' occupational needs. Any presentation that you or a colleague conducts, using the materials provided in this manual, must be relevant to the school nurses' experiences and jobs.
