- After giving instructions or an explanation, pause and ask, “Do you have any questions? I know this is a lot of information at once.”
- Patients may be timid and concerned about appearing uneducated.
- They may be nervous and simply want to leave the health facility in a hurry. It may take courage for them to ask questions.
- Praise patients for asking questions and answer them thoughtfully and carefully. For example, say:
- “I’m glad you asked that question....”
- “Good question....”
