Directly observed treatment or DOT has traditionally been focused on having the patient go to the health facility to receive the anti-TB drugs. However, this can create many other problems for the patient including loss of income and transportation costs. Home or work-based DOT, depending on what is convenient for the patient, is likely to achieve the best results. DOT should be provided to help the patient as part of a patient-centred approach. More detail about DOT can be found in Module 5 of this course. |
