Pennsylvania TB Contact Investigation Webinar Series

Dates: February 17, 23, March 3, and 9
Time: 10:30 am - 12:00 pm ET

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
The purpose of this webinar series is to familiarize nurses with the fundamentals of the tuberculosis contact investigation process and its role in TB prevention and control. The topics will include deciding when to initiate an investigation, determining the start and end of the infectious period, prioritizing contacts, and approaches for conducting congregate setting contact investigations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
These webinars are designed for county and municipal health department nurses from Pennsylvania who conduct and/or oversee TB contact investigations.

WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
This training is needed to introduce the fundamental concepts of contact investigations to nurses involved in TB prevention and control. This webinar series will be an opportunity to learn from an expert in the region and share experiences and challenges with colleagues. Currently, there are limited opportunities for nurses to collaborate with colleagues for real-time input on the resolution of challenges in CI management, including large scale investigations.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this series, participants should be better able to:

  • Implement recommendations based on the Guidelines for the Investigation of Contacts of Persons with Infectious Tuberculosis.
  • Incorporate recommendations and best practices for conducting a congregate setting investigation, including conducting a site-assessment, identifying contacts, and determining when to expand an investigation.
  • Determine the beginning and end of the infectious period.
  • Assess which contacts are at highest risk for TB infection and TB disease and assign priorities.
