Virtual TB Intensive Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This course for clinicians provides focuses on the application of principles for the diagnosis and treatment of TB infection and TB disease. Topics include transmission and pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment, case management, cultural competency, and managing side effects of treatment. The format includes live lectures, interactive discussions, and archived presentations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course is designed for physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals who are actively involved in the diagnosis and management of TB patients. Individuals who work in the following settings would benefit from attending this workshop:
WHY COURSE IS NEEDED
As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. Therefore, ongoing training and education are important for healthcare providers to enhance skills in TB diagnosis, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies. This type of training is also important for new clinicians working in TB control or other settings.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be better able to:
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
This course will build upon basic TB concepts. Prior to the course, it is recommended that participants review the CDC’s Core Curriculum on Tuberculosis: What the Clinician Should Know (Available at: http://www.cdc.gov/tb/education/corecurr/index.htm). In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course, and complete an evaluation form. To recieve full continuing education credits, participants are expected to complete 5 self-paced lectures. A post-course follow-up evaluation will be sent within 1 month of the course.
CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
PHYSICIANS: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
NURSES: This activity is awarded 13 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should only claim those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.
