COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
The purpose of this one-day conference is to provide updated information on TB diagnosis and treatment and the current situation and emerging needs around TB in New Jersey (NJ). The goal is to enhance healthcare provider knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of TB in the state, with a focus on working with new arrivals such as refugees and asylum seekers, new diagnostics, and treatment regimens, and working collaboratively with partners. The format includes lectures, interactive discussions, and case studies.

THIS ACTIVITY IS DESIGNED FOR
This conference is open to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other TB control and prevention professionals in New Jersey.

Clinical Update on Treatment of TB Infection and Disease: How Short Can Our Regimens Go? - Henry Fraimow, MD

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Summarize TB trends in NJ to identify which populations are at greatest risk for TB infection and disease.
  • Describe the TB screening and testing requirements for specific groups of new arrivals to NJ, including refugees, asylum seekers, and humanitarian parolees.
  • Identify best practices and available resources for providing appropriate patient-centered TB screening and care for new arrivals.
  • Integrate updated clinical and laboratory guidance to improve outcomes around diagnosis and treatment of individuals with TB infection and disease.

CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and NJ Department of Health. Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

CREDIT DESIGNATION

PHYSICIANS: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NURSES: This activity is awarded 5.5 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should only claim those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend in the conference and complete an evaluation form.
