COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
This event aims to strengthen clinician knowledge of the diagnosis and management of latent TB infection (LTBI) and will provide an opportunity to address current and emerging issues around LTBI in Vermont as well as promote networking among providers. Topics will include a review of recommendations and policies for screening new arrivers and other individuals at increased risk for TB, use and interpretation of available diagnostics, assessment to exclude TB disease, available treatment regimens, and monitoring of patients receiving treatments for LTBI.

AGENDA

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This activity is designed for providers practicing in Vermont who assess and care for individuals at risk for LTBI or TB disease.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this training, participants should be better able to:

  • Identify TB resources and services available from the Vermont Department of Health.
  • List high risk populations that should be screened for LTBI.
  • Select an appropriate test for individuals who are high risk.
  • Interpret TST and IGRAs results.
  • List the components of an evaluation to rule out active TB.
  • Identify regimens for LTBI treatment and describe their side effects.
  • Describe follow up and lab monitoring recommendations for persons on treatment for LTBI.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire session and complete an evaluation form.
