COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL

In commemoration of World TB Day, this conference will address the TB prevention and elimination efforts in New York City and in the United States. Topics will include a review of local epidemiology, updates in recommendations for the treatment of drug susceptible TB, new guidelines for isolation of persons with infectious TB, and an overview of short-course drug regimens for treatment of TB infection.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This conference is open to physicians, nurses, TB survivors, public health staff, and other health care workers who manage patients at risk for or diagnosed with TB infection or disease.


OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize the epidemiology of TB in NYC to make informed decisions about screening, testing, and treatment of high-risk persons.
  • Discuss recommendations regarding initiating and discontinuing isolation for individuals with presumptive or confirmed pulmonary TB disease, including the implications for clinicians and patients.
  • Summarize updated recommendations for the treatment of TB disease.
  • Identify shorter course regimens to treat persons with TB infection with the goal of improving adherence and completion rates.

Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
CME: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
