These resources are intended to assist clinicians in assessing risk for TB in children and guide decision making for testing and treatment of TB infection. The information is based on American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. Prior to utilizing the algorithm, providers should review the risk assessment checklist provided on page 2 and elicit additional information from parents or guardians.
Clinicians are encouraged to:
- Consult a pediatric TB expert as needed when providing treatment for TB infection.
- Consult a pediatric TB expert for evaluation of a child who has any symptoms of TB (e.g., cough, fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, or failure to thrive) or an abnormal chest X-ray (CXR).
