Dr. Vernard Green – Dixie Snider Award

During the National TB Controllers Association’s 2021 Virtual Conference, nominated individuals were recognized for their outstanding dedication to TB prevention and elimination efforts. Of particular note, this year Dr. Vernard Green was posthumously awarded the Dixie Snider award. The Dixie Snider award recognizes a CDC employee who has provided outstanding support through partnership with a state or local TB community in the interest of TB control and prevention. Dr. Green was with the Division of TB Elimination for 16 years and a Project Officer in the Field Services Branch, Division of TB Elimination, since 2012. Vern was a friendly and familiar face among TB programs in the region and he displayed a passion for TB and public health. His wife, Sonjá Green, accepted the award on his behalf during the NTCA Conference.  The Global TB Institute would like to take this opportunity to celebrate Vern’s contributions to TB prevention and control and his supportive role in working with TB programs in the Northeastern region. He will be greatly missed!
