Conventional Drug Susceptibility Test

To confirm MDR-TB or any type of drug resistance a patient should have a DST. If a test shows resistance to a specific anti-TB drug, the drug should not be used in the patient’s regimen. Usually, drug susceptibility testing is done on first line drugs, although some laboratories have second line capabilities. Generally DST is done from a cultured specimen although there are direct tests that allow DST from sputum.
