Note for samples for testing with Xpert MTB/RIF

• There are a few important differences that should be taken into account when collecting sputum for a Xpert MTB/RIF test.


• Samples that contain large particles or chunks may interfere with the PCR process and produce error results. While a saliva specimen will not produce any errors, it will likely produce negative results.


• Proper mouth rinsing and inspection of the specimen should be utilized.
