PLWHIV with Suspected Extrapulmonary TB

• In 2014 WHO issued new policy guidance for the use of Xpert MTB/RIF in the diagnosis of TB among people with suspected EPTB.


• The WHO recommends that Xpert MTB/RIF should be used as the initial diagnostic test in testing cerebrospinal fluid specimens from patients presumed to have TB meningitis.


• Though the data is limited, published studies indicate that Xpert MTB/RIF has low sensitivity for pleural TB.
