Product Highlights

We have been busy working on a wide array of educational products in the last year!  Our new or forthcoming educational materials include animated patient education videos, pocket cards, an online tool to assist in clinical decision making, and much more! We hope you find these new materials useful in your TB care and prevention work!

 

Conducting the Tuberculosis Congregate Setting Contact Investigation
NEW 34-minute instructional video for TB program staff:

  • Provides an overview for planning and conducting congregate setting contact investigations.
  • Uses case examples to demonstrate the process, from the initial notification of a congregate setting exposure to the identification of contacts and closing the investigation.
  • Can be used for self-directed learning or incorporated into skills-building trainings.

Diagnosis and Treatment of LTBI in Children and Adolescents
NEW pocket-sized card based on recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics:

  • Can be used as a brief reference for pediatric primary care providers.
  • Contains concise practical information on identifying children at risk for TB, testing, diagnosis, and treatment of LTBI
  • Includes monitoring and strategies for achieving successful completion of treatment in children.

Latent TB Infection (LTBI) Videos for Primary Care Providers
Two NEW additions to this series of brief videos for primary care providers practicing in community settings:

  • Treating LTBI discusses the rationale for treating LTBI, available treatment regimens, and patient education and adherence. It also covers treatment in special circumstances, such as contacts and children.
  • Monitoring Patients on Treatment for LTBI discusses potential adverse effects of medications for LTBI, clinical and laboratory monitoring, and assessing and addressing adherence to treatment.

LTBI ASSIST
NEW interactive online tool for clinicians, including those in primary care settings:

  • Can be used to inform clinical decision-making.
  • Uses clinical scenarios to walk users through current TB guidelines and recommendations around screening, testing, and treatment of LTBI.
  • Coming soon - new section on monitoring and adverse effects!
  • Includes reference material and links to additional educational resources to support evidence-based care.

Patient Education Videos
Two NEW brief animated videos available in English and Spanish that can be used as a part of the TB patient education process. The videos range from 5 to 8 minutes:

  • How TB is Spread explains TB transmission and how to prevent it.
  • Coming soon - new Marshallese version!
  • What Does TB Infection Mean? explains the difference between TB infection and TB disease.

Pediatric TB Risk Assessment Tool and Checklist  
NEW tool developed with the New Jersey Department of Health:

  • Intended to assist clinicians in assessing risk for TB in children and guide decision making for testing and treatment of LTBI.
  • Based on American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations.
  • Includes a risk assessment checklist for parents or caregivers (available in English and Spanish).
  • Includes links to additional information and resources, including GTBI’s TB consultation services.

Rifampin Drug-Drug Interactions: A Guide for Primary Care Providers Treating Latent Tuberculosis Infection
Coming Soon! NEW resource for health care providers

  • This guide summarizes drug-drug interactions (DDI) between drugs commonly used in primary care settings and rifamycins in the context of LTBI treatment.
  • Drugs are grouped by class in this table form DDI guide.
  • Medical providers can access clinical recommendations for each drug and compare drug options within the same drug class.

Sputum Collection Videos
NEW brief animated videos for patients available in English and Spanish. Each video is approximately 4 minutes:

  • Home Sputum Collection video provides instructions on how to produce a good sputum specimen for TB diagnosis.
  • Induced Sputum Collection video provides instructions on how to produce a good sputum sample using a nebulizer and saline solution to induce a sputum specimen for TB diagnosis.
