Rapid diagnosis of MDR-TB has several benefits including earlier treatment of patients which will undoubtedly save more lives by reducing the resources spent on inappropriate and ineffective patient treatment. The use of LPA requires specialized laboratory infrastructure and will not be available in all settings. Other rapid tests such as Xpert MTB/RIF are better suited as closer to point of care testing for resistance, while LPA can assist in providing confirmation of results and susceptibility testing for more drugs.
